Title Sequence Vs. Trailer

A title sequence is a scene or a sequence of scenes shown at the beginning of a film. This is used to show the names of cast members and production team; this is not to be confused with the ending credits. These titles are normally superimposed over a scene, allowing the text and the scene to be viewed clearly. Title sequences help to build up the story plot or show a crucial moment, building up anticipation and atmosphere. They act as an establishing shot. A Trailer is a composed montage of scenes edited with cuts. Trailers allow the viewer to get an insight of what the story line and genre are. This entices the viewer to watch the whole film. In addition to this film trailers are usually much shorter than title sequences, so that they can be advertised in between programs or before movie showings in cinemas. Trailers are therfore merely used for promotional purposes

Preliminary Task Evaluation

PRELIMINARY TASK EVALUATION

WWW

Personally, I believe that the preliminary task that I created with George Hook was a great success. All of our filming was completed as well as the editing, uploading to YouTube & Blogger. As well as enjoying the task itself, it looks professional and all continuity features are included. This includes the 180 degree rule, match on action and also shot reverse shot. Furthermore, we also took it into our own hands to ensure other features such as an eye-line match were included. Another feature we included which we weren't even taught was a bird's eye shot which I believe to be very effective. because the editing was up to scratch and most things on point, I believe this made our preliminary task exceptional as well as standing out amongst others.

It could have been better if we had got 2 shots which we had to retake right the first time. The clips broke the 180 degree rule resulting in a retake of the shot which wasted time and was also quite frustrating. Instead, we did an over-the-shoulder shot which was in the 180 degree borderline. Also, throughout shooting, there was quite a lot of background noise because of other students walking around the school. Although this was very minor, it would definitely be a feature to improve on in the future.
